Using my OptiVisor to get a closer look at skin lesion and at wounds with sutures embedded. Would be nice to change the magnification w/o necessarily bringing the object closer to the lenses.

This device works surprisingly well. It allows your hands to be free while working. I use it for miniature painting. Sure helps with the little details!

My fiance's mother had a dental lab and used a visor like this in her work, which my fiance had been using for years for his models. Well, it finally wore out, so I got him this one to replace it, and he loves it, and says it's even better than the original.

When I took up beading, preferring #11 and tiny #15 beads, at an age that is far beyond bifocals, it took me many frustrating minutes to thread a #12 needle. Sometimes I couldn't even tell which end of the needle to thread! Not any more. I can use the OptiVisor with or without my glasses, the loupe is terrific for threading the needles, and best of all, the battery-operated light enables me to bead early in the morning or late at night as well as during the day. It's absolutely terrific!

Since my LASIK surgery I am unable to do fine close up work for my hobbies of electronics and model ship building. I have tried swing arm magnifiers but they never are just right when you need them. I bought a set of cheap headband style magnifiers, and while useful, they were very uncomfortable for more than a couple of minutes. Donegans were recommended and I bought a pair. WHAT A DIFFERENCE! You can wear these all day with no discomfort. You'll forget they're on. I can use a #3 or #4 element for work then switch to a #5 with or without the swing-down loupe for close and critical inspection. These are a joy to use. I recommend them without reservation. For close work they are better than my pre-LASIK eyes.

The Optivisor is an excellent product for viewing items up close when those old eyeballs just can't do it anymore.I strongly suggest buying the light that goes with this wonderful product. There are a multitude of uses for this visor.I definitely have no regret's buying it.

The OptiVisor is standard equipment for every hard metal engraver I know. By brand name. It's that good. The STANDARD starting OptiVisor is the DA-5 or 5 diopter version and the loupe. The loupe, while designed for monocular viewing, can be used on each side if you are careful to make sure the lens is centrally placed over each eye-piece. Now, the DA-5 is NOT 5X (5 power) it is determined by a mathematical equation so that the actual power of a DA-5 is 2.5 X. But a DA-3 is a 1.75X and not a 1.5X. The numbers are a bit different because they refer to "diopters" The DA-5 (the 5 stands for 5 Diaptor magnification) and is considered "standard" for general work. Other powers are 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 10. The loupe multiplies the diopter power by 2.5. The following is a list of OptiVisors with their equivalent magnification power and working distance, which gets closer the higher the power. OptiVisor POWER WORKING DISTANCE 2 1.5 X at 20 inches 3 1.75 X at 14 inches 4 2.0 X at 10 inches 5 2.5 X at 8 inches 7 2.75 X at 6 inches 10 3.5 X at 4 inches Pay more attention to the working distance than the power. If you are doing work that needs clearance--like soldering, engraving, needle point, etc.--use the working distance to make sure you can get your tool(s) between your eyes and the work bench. While the powers seem modest when compared with a stereoscope (dissecting microscope), they are amazingly sufficient when using them for moderate close-up work. The loupes will decrease your working distance because they increase your magnification. I use two different powers, the DA-5 and a DA-7, each with two loupes fit on the lenses. And I also own a DA-2 and DA-4 to get a broader picture of what I am engraving, but most of my work is with the DA-5 and loupe--the power is good enough for me to check the face of some very fine-line gravers for fractures or dullness. The DA-7 allows me to do the very fine detail on birds, landscapes, or to check my lines to make sure they are good enough for gold, silver, or platinum inlay work. I seldom use the DA-2 or DA-4. I have not tried the light--because I work too close to my engraving for it to do me much good--and I use other lighting sources which are better for my work. I recommend a "true color" light--it makes all the difference in the world when working close up. In halogen a small "whisper" fan will keep you and the metal cool, two lights will cut down on unwanted shadow. A rheostat hooked up to the halogens will allow you to not blind yourself from flashes of very bright light from a mirror finished bright cut in hard metal, and allow you to increase the definition of your lines if necessary, especially if the lines are small and the work delicate. You can't get better than the OptiVisor. There is a reason they are the "industry standard"--and it is the combination of optical clarity and the ruggedness of design. I have used mine for well over ten years and have often not been kind to them--and they still work. I visited this site because I plan to get some for a family member who has just graduated as an anthropologist--and can't stand seeing him straining to see ancient shards and flakes and art using the standard hang-it-around-your-neck loupe. This makes all close up work easy--and yet keeps the field flat and bright.

I bought the Optivisor for close work relative to decoy carving and for Fly tying. The Optivisor is very comfortable and and has excellent optics. I can see a lot of different uses for this product that requires magnification. I also bought the optiloupe, which provides additional magnification without having to but an additional full lense. It is ok. Has a small field of view at a close range. Also the nut that holds it on seems to always loosen. A better design for fastening it to the visor would be a reccomendation

One of my more technical hobbies is building Harley Davidsons. This being the case, I am also a machinist and perform about 95% of my own work... primarily engine building for performance. I purchased the Optivisor to help me in porting and polishing the interior air passages in my engine heads. I was most plesantly surprised to see how much of a positive difference this magnifyer makes. Much less eye strain and expotentially improved vision "inside" the air passages in the heads. This now is my number one tool when performing technical engine work. Thanks for a truely GREAT product at amazingly low prices.

I paint miniature figures for table top gaming and I have to say, the OptiVisor is AWESOME. Before I got the OptiVisor I struggled to see and paint all those details on my minitures, now that I have an OptiVisor painting those intricate details are a snap. Get one today!!!

While I find the Optivisor helpful for getting an enlarged view of my work, after a few minutes of use, I found it disturbing to my eyes. Perhaps it is because I am far sighted, with glasses. I also found that it was not so easy for me to keep my work in clear focus.

My husband is thrilled with the Opti-Visor. He uses it when he is painting minute details on 19th century ships.
