The designs in Celtic illuminated manuscripts represent a distinctive fusion of native Irish, Germanic and Near Eastern motifs. Graphic artist Ed Sibbett has brilliantly captured the intricacy and beauty of this original art tradition in 37 drawings based on illustrations in the Book of Durrow, the Gospels of St. Willibrord, and the illustrious Book of Kells. Among the motifs are the characteristic Celtic interlacings, geometric-animal combinations, and decorative initials, plus powerful ornaments and symbolic abstractions of animals and people. A portrait of St. Matthew appears as a center spread, not backed up, and that may be taken out and framed. Captions identify the source of each picture, and explain the iconography. I have purchased twenty (20) Dover coloring books from MisterArt.com, and have even won a gift certificate by submitting reviews of these coloring books!! I am a 35 year old stay-at-home mom of 2 young children. After a long, long day, I find coloring to be very relaxing. The books that MisterArt.com offers are also challenging so get yourself a very large box of Crayolas (96 count), sit down with a cup of coffee at the end of the day and relax. I will continue to purchase from MisterArt.com as no one out there offers these books. Plus, you can't beat the prices of the books (under $4) or the shipping cost. I am very pleased with MisterArt.com and have voted for them on Bizrate.com as my favorite website. To all the moms out there ... after a 12+hour day of caring for children, give your mind a rest and color--these books are meant for us!
