I really enjoyed this book. I put a piece of white paper behind the page I wanted to color because otherwise the lines from other the stained glass pages can get confusing. But the designs are very interesting, including lots of traditional animal knots. I used colored pencils for mine but I might suggest something with a bit more pigment because the sun really takes the oomph out of the colors when you put it up on the window. I don't know if waterbased inks would work well for the clear paper the designs come on, because they feel a little waxy or plastic-like. But, I loved the designs and I will order more dover books in the future for sure.
