These tools are a great first-time set for beginning carvers! It's got the essential basic blades (1V, 2V, and 5U) that you'll need to do smaller intricate areas as well as digging out larger spaces. My sons, ages 10 & 11, are using these tools with me and along with Staedtler's carving blocks; are having so much fun learning this art! Highly recommended!

These are great gouges. The handles are very comfortable and allow for good control. The blades are excellent and cut smoothly. A very good set, especialy for beginning carvers.
