Create countless patterns on paper, foil, even clay! Textured designs are molded right into flexible and sturdy large plastic rubbing plates. Fun and easy to use. Instantly adds intriguing patterns to drawings, greeting cards, murals, and collage. Twist and turn to achieve cross-hatching, halftones or pointillism. Obtain dramatic results with crayon, and coloring or graphite pencils. Use rubbing plates to add texture to clay. Simply use a rolling pin or a brayer to achieve an imprint or pass the plate and a slab of clay through a pasta machine at a wide setting. Set of 6, 8 1/2 in x 11 in. plates contains one of each texture. Kits contain the following textures:

  • Architecture set--large and small brick, stone, slate, tile, large and small siding, and large and small shingles.
  • Design set--parallel lines, waves, swirled dots, dots in a grid, dense dots, and squiggles.
  • Nature set--gravel, wood grain, water, plants, leaves and grass.
  • Textile set--Burlap large and small lace, linen, knit, herringbone, and hounds tooth.

I was very suprised at how large these plates are! Also, some of the plates have two different sizes of the texture on them, for example the bricks. My husband is a minature builder for warhammer etc, and they are perfect for all the nature and architecture they needed. The bonus was the plates were so big, after cutting them to the size of the pasta machine I got a whole set of plates for my studio as well!

These plate did not work well for me because I use the oil paint sticks on fabric. The plates are too detailed for fabric, altho I imagine they work great on paper.

I purchased the Nature set. Although some of the textures were quite ambiguous (I felt that several looked like grass), they are quite delightful to use. I have a smaller pasta machine, so I cut all of them down the middle. A warning, setting the plate and clay through the pasta machine at a setting less than 6 will leave you with a mess you'll end up picking out of the plate grooves for a while.

I am a ceramic handbuilder and always on the lookout for fun textures. These were great, good variety, only downside was they could have been deeper cut as they gave a subtle texture.
