We used Krylon chalkboard finish on a very old, very worn out chalk board. We're vrey happy with the results -- it really did restore the board to useable condition. It is not able to fill in chips, cracks, etc. to the degree that you won't notice them, but it does work well and it does provide a good surface for writing and erasing chalk. Well worth the money when compared to a new board.
