An industry standard! Must have.

Sanford Turquoise Drawing Pencils are my choice for pencils. They are top-notch, excellent quality pencils. There are several reasons why I like these particular pencils. For starters, they have an entire range of 20 hard/soft degrees ranging from 9H-9B. An HB is usually all I'll ever need - all the variations in tonal value I can get from one pencil. The graphite core is exceptionally smooth and strong. The leads sharpen to a long lasting, durable point. The pencils are great for quick, loose work; or for intriciatly detailed portraits and pencil renderings. The barrel of the pencil is hexagonal cedar with a smooth finish that feels great in the hand. I actually prefer it without an eraser tip because the balance feels better. I use a Sanford Pink Pearl as the perfect asscessory to my Turquoise pencils. There are pencils that cost less and pencils that cost a little more. Staedtler, Conte, Faber-Castell...are all great manufacturers, but this unassuming, plainly painted pencil is the one for me. The Sanford Turquoise Drawing Pencil - the best!

The Turqoise are by far the best graphite pencils I've found. The Graphite is smooth, they hold a point good, and blend well. The 2B-4B do the work of HB-6B of most other brands.

These are excellent pencils. I like the hardness, durability and ease with which I can use them, and the easy way in which I can erase my pencil lines without smudges.

Excellent pencils, long lasting point and no scratching of drawing surface, couldn't be happier.

The 4B pencil is all you need for fine portrait work! It takes a super point, holds it well, and blends like a dream. You can get every aspect of shading and hard line you need, also light shades to blackest black, all from one pencil.
Rated by: Lauren I. in Orange County, CA
These are my absolute favorite pencils for both full-scale drawings and sketches. Point lasts forever, smooth feel...couldn't ask for anything more.

A good substitute for the discontinued Blackwing 303s. Get the 3B or 4B soft-lead numbers, which have the additional virtue of having thicker lead than the old Blackwings. Excellent on smooth or textured paper, and of course, great for sketching as well as writing, with smooth, black coverage.
