This is a great sketch pen. The tip is flexible, although not greatly so. So you can get a variation in line width as you draw. What's interesting is that this pen draws as well as a Namiki Falcon (just about identically), and I paid over $120 for the Namiki. I like this pen and the calligraphy pens made by Rotring a lot.

As a cartoonist I am always looking for a good pen, always on the lookout for that perfect pen. this one is not perfect I have yet to find a perfect pen but this one is very good. I was impressed with how quickly and well the ink flowed. I can invert the nib in my hand when drawing and get even a finer line than the extra fine nib that I ordered. I have a large collection of fountain and drawing pens, this one has moved up to the top of my favorite ones. Some of my pens have cost many times what I paid for this one and I have been disappointed with not all but some of them. For the money this one is a great buy. If in the future it explodes taking off a few fingers or starts spitting ink at me I will let you know. As for the leaking problem stated in the review by someone else, I have found that if you store your pen in a point up position when not in use this usually isn't a problem with this type of pen. Hope this helps.

This pen is user friendly for a beginner like me. I've been using it for several weeks and never once has it skipped or leaked or blobbed ink where I didn't want it. Writing letters or doing small nature sketches has been very easy. The ink dries quickly and the writing experience enjoyable overall. I bought the Sketching F, Sketching EF, and Calligraphy 1.9 and really like them all. I don't have the experience to compare these to other similiar pens, but for a first try these have been great, better than I expected.

No, I politely disagree with this puffing: "Flexible stainless steel nib produces lines of varying width by changing hand pressure ..." I purchased the FINE and this is absolutely NOT the case. I've bought the other Rotring pens offered by MisterArt and am very happy with them. A terrific value for the cost. However, it is not correct to say that this pen is any more flexible OR responds to hand pressure to produce varying widths then, say, the calligraphy pen. It's simply not true. I love my Rotring pens, but none of their pens perform Spencerian or Copperplate style scripts. For this I had to invest in my vintage pens with sprung tip (better than the Rotring but still falls far short of the oblique, hand dipped nibs). Are you listening Rotring: there is a demand for these old timey, Spencerian-script nibs in a fountain pen!!!

Amazing pen. I didn't expect too much for the price but it works perfectly. It writes every time with no problem so far (3 weeks) It draws perfectly in all directions and no leaks or blobs. I could want for more heft to the weight of it for a better feel but it's not really a problem.

I bought the extra fine. I love this pen. It draws perfectly and I use it almost daily. It's fantastic for sketching. I liked it so much that when I put in my next order, I bought the Fine as well. They seem to have a more artistic, flareful look than hard tipped pens like the Pigma or like roller ball. I'm hooked. The cartridges are a snap to use too.

A truly great pen. I've been using these for years and with the new refillable ink cartridge they're now even better. My only complaint (and it's kind of a big one because it renders the pen useless) is that if something damages your nib that inhibits drawing you're out of luck. I've never been able to find anyone who sells just the nibs, and Rotring wouldn't return my inquiries. Just make sure you take good care of it.

I like the the idea of a flexible nib fountain pen for drawing. Don't have to haul around an ink well for dipping the pen in. The problem is the nibs lack the flexibility of a dip pen and don't offer much line variation. They line is consistent almost like a rapidograph. Also the ink in the cartridges is water based. If you want to mix water color or acrylic with these they bleed. I bought an ink converter and use it with Pelican ink and the results are better. The paper you use also makes a big difference on the performance of the pen. The paper needs to be absorbent but not too smooth or too rough. To get line variation you have to do alot of crap you shouldn't have to like roll the pen around upside down, let the tip dry out a bit and other work arounds. I like it but I'm still looking. Someone's got to make a fountain pen with a good flexible drawing nib.

This pen is awesome. Simple to use. Great for everyday use. Although I can't seem to figure out how to solve this sudden leaking problem.. there's no crack or anything.. its just that it leaked a whole catridge. Alas I have 4 more not to worry. On a scale of 10 I'd give it a 8.5 out of other pens I used before. This is much better.

I've used these sketch pens for years and have yet to find anything that comes close to its simplicity and ease for sketching.

This is the best pen i have ever worked with. If you don't mind buying the refills for it then i would suggest this to any one. You can get the line as fine as a micron pen but it won't fade with the flare at the end of your stroke. love it and wouln't work with anything else.

A nice general-purpose sketching pen. I use it for gesture sketching (for which my rapidographs do not work well). Ink flows very well and line width control is fairly good. The "extra-fine" pen produces a rather wide line (a little heavier than a 0.35 rapidograph) even with light pressure. The sketching pen ink is not as densly pigmented as the rapidograph ink. Thus, the lines tend to be very dark grey rather than black.

This is the pen that i use for all of my lettering. If you're a comic artist or a strip cartoonist this pen can't be beat at lettering. As stated in other reviews, it's a fine sketching pen as well. The ink flows at such a rate that you shouldn't ever run into the problem of running out of ink mid-line. the ink isn't waterproof, at least the ink that i have at present isn't, i don't know if they make any that is. so you may have to invest in some spray fix as well. Also, the ink won't dry super fast, it might take something like fifteen to twenty seconds to dry, so be sure not to drag your hand through something you've just inked. i rate it as a four. as far as i'm concerned it's perfect for the jobs i've stated, lettering and sketching. i can't lie to you though, it's not the only pen that you'll ever need, but you'll get some great mileage out of it.

I started out with an extra fine sketching pen and now have five of various nib sizes. In addition to using them for the use they are specifically designed for they are great smooth writing pens for all kinds of writing and correspondence.

Don't bother with any other, cheaper product - this is the real deal and you will not regret it! It's ergonomically styled handle guarantees a smooth ride, the balance is perfect and the ink flows without dripping or clogging. And, it looks cool, too ...:).

I am into art journals and I wanted a pen that I could use different colored inks in...so I decided to purchase this art pen and I am happy to say that i am delighted. the nib is smooth and give a beautiful line without any blotchiness. I also purchased the converter which is a tube that you can attach to the pen and draw up ink from an ink bottle. Once I understood how to properly affix the converter I have successfully filled the converter with antique brown ink and there is no dripping or mess. I love it!! Thank you MisterArt.com.

A great pen. Really smooth action. Still nothing really beats a quill pen for variation in line. This pen is great when you are on the go or for quick sketches in the studio.

I use this pen for writting and sketching, although it dosen't have as fine a line as the Koh-i-noor rapid sketch pen, it is a good addition and adds to my sketches when using both

Great stroke control and feel--overall, just a fantastic pen for sketching and doing technical drawings. It's the only pen I use.

lots the smooth flow of this pen! buy extras, you won't regret it!
Rated by: patinthehat in Rockland, Miane
I agree that a sturdy, inexpensive pen with Spenserian flexibility and expressiveness would be wonderful, but these are very handy and do a more-than-adequate job for what they are. Have not had any leakage problems, always seems ready to go, better ink is good but for basic, quickie sketches these are not to be sniffed at. Until perfection arrives, grab these and go!
