Sharpie brand markers are very reliable. The silver color is fantastic on dark surfaces. I hope Sharpie will consider making a gold and copper (or bronze) color metallic marker as well.

We are always looking for ways of easily marking reels of motion picture film so projectionists do not error when playing them. In the past, we needed to put a strip of white artist tape on the head of each reel (film comes in multiple reels, anywhere from 6 to 12, depending on the length of the feature). On that tape is written the reel number, feature title, sound and picture format information. This is essential for the projectionist so the reels are show in their correct order and with the correct sound and picture formats. With the Sharpie Metallic marker, we can eliminate the white tape altogether because the matallic lines stand out on even the darkest leaders. Surprisingly, because of the way the light is reflected by the ink material, writing can also be seen equally as well, even on film leader that is transparent. This is a boon for projectionists everywhere. We love it.
