As an artist myself I had to get an art easel for my two young boys for their birthday gift 3 and 2 years old. When I first saw it I knew I had to get it, it was so different than those plain simple looking easels that looked like they would distroy fast. They use the chalk on the black board side and they climb all through the middle on top of the wagon and in below. This easel is very sturdy. I suggest that you but it together in the room you plan to put it in because it is very wide and difficult to go through doorways.
