The colors are bright and the pencils work smoothly and easily and layer well. I do wish they had mentioned that the pencil is a bigger diameter, though.

What is the difference between Conte pencils and soft pastel pencils?

- Asked by glynis on 21-Mar-13

Conte pencils are considered pastel pencils, but if you want really soft look at the Carb-Othello pencils by Stabilo (it's almost a "colored charcoal" in its softness) .

The colors are vibrant and a good quality. The only issue is that the pencils do smudge (which can be a good thing). It depends upon what you are using them for.

Conte is what my instructors recommended and I would have no other to creat beautiful pastels that will last forever.

I love these Conte pastel pencils. They enable me to give my artwork sharp detail to the smallest of objects in my work without the blockiness that stick pastels gives. I've used these pencils for over 20 years and nothing else compares in quality. I've tried others, but they never seemed to be able to provide the sharpness that my work requires. My local art supply stores don't carry the Conte pastel pencils so it's a thrill to find someone who does.
