Clear Tar Gel

by Golden

Golden Clear Tar Gel is formulated to yield a pully, tar-like feel, but in a 100% polymer emulsion colorless gel. This gel has an extremely resinous and stringy web-like feel. Useful for generating fine detailed lines by "dripping" it over surfaces, as it continuously flows from palette knives or other tools. Blends with all Golden Acrylic colors, though Golden Fluid Acrylics and Matte Fluid Acrylics work best.

Clear tar gel creates a unique end product: use a palette knife or for smaller/narrower stream, a plastic fork to drip and drizzle gel onto paper/canvas. Let dry and apply paint on and around the gel. The pigment dries darker in the surrounding area, leaving the ribbons of gel raised and much lighter in color. It creates a very interesting 3-D effect as well as a nice contrast in color and texture.

This is such a fun medium to play with. I loved the stringy texture - it was easy to drip and swirl paint mixed with tar gel from a knife and get intricate patterns.

I purchased this Golden Clear Tar Gel to explore the possibilites of doing transfers. I put two layers of Tar Gel on the top of magazine pictures, let dry, soak in water, rub off the back, and presto; I have an excellent quality and strong transfer! A complete success!

Very interesting to use, must explore, the possibilities.

Golden tar gel is one of my favorite texture mediums. Golden is always generous to students and a very good consistent quality in their products.

This is great stuff...if you like to play around with glossy textures, stringy ribbons of hue and plastic-like puddles of color. First time user and I'm hooked...lots of exploring to do.
