For the past forty years I have used a medium made of 50% damar varnish and 50 % Pure turpentine. This is quite close to Grumbacher's retouch varnish. After three days my paintings are dry to the touch. I spray with three coats and never have to spray or hand paint with any other coating. The retouch varnish becomes part of the skin coat and protects the painting. I have seen paintingss that I treated as above thirty years ago, and they look like I had just treated them!!!

Grumbacher's Retouch varnish spray is an invaluable tool. It allows me to frame and hang oils without waiting for the paint to completely cure and to paint over mistakes or redo an area without redoing the entire painting.

Grumbacher Retouch is So hard to find in other paint stores. It is the best for using so that you can brighten, and define your project, and going over somehthing that isn't quite right... doesn't make you have to do the whole painting over. It is GOLD to have in your painting supplies

this spray varnish is particularly useful when applied to a painting which is not quite dry enough for the varnish to be applied by brush.this type of varnish comes in the non-spray type, which must be brushed onto the painting.if the painting is at all wet the brushing will melt the paint and brushing may ruin the painting. the spray variety of this varnish will enable you to apply the varnish without a brush and avoid the possible harm that might otherwise be done.

Great product, but as with most spray varnishes use it outdoors or with all the windows open, it stinks!
