Black covers are beautifully-textured heavyweight acid-free poly with rounded corners and protective overhangs. Sketchbook Inspiral binding is easy to refill and exchange sheets. It offers the security of comb binding with the flexibility of a loose leaf. Sketchbooks come with 64 sheets of 80 lb. acid free text paper with a medium tooth surface. Paper is ideal for dry media.

Refills sheets are available in sketch paper, ruled note paper, or watercolor paper, and come with refill instructions. All are acid free.

Sketch and ruled note paper have a silky smooth surface and resistance to ink. Migration makes this a superior sheet for traditional pen and ink work. Paper is 80 lb. smooth text.

Watercolor paper is Arches En-Tout-Cas 104 lb. acid free, 25% cotton mould made paper. This all purpose paper has a cold-pressed texture on one side and a smooth, hot-pressed surface on the other.

My preferences for compact (8.5 by 5.5) dimensions, spiral binding, and cream colored, heavy (65 lb) paper are difficult to find in combination. Oh, did I mention I also prefer blank paper? I can usually find one or two features, but not all. Until Now! I have discovered KOMTRAK Refillable Sketchbooks! This product has 'wish fulfillment' written all over it: 8.5 by 5.5 cream colored paper and bound with their unique removable spiral binding. The binding is ingenious: two clips stabilize it at top and bottom. Remove the clips, twist the spiral out. Reorganize or reload sketch paper, replace the heavy duty plastic covers, and twist spiral back into place and return clips. I love its portability, ease of use, and versatility. I am going to buy a ream of canary color (my second favorite shade for paper) copy paper, cut it in half and have it hole punched at the copy shop. It's a dream come true for this detail-obsessed paper snob!

It is hard to find a more versatile notebook for those of us who wish to keep multi-media work together. This has many advantages, but some of the accessories need to be obtained from Komtrak which is a very artist friendly company. I ended up with both the spiral bound and three ring punched versions as I want to see which best fits my needs. For some the spiral bound will be best; for me it is easier (for the moment?) to use the three ring punched version. I hope that MisterArt will consider carrying that version as well. Komtrak is really trying hard to make its products work for artists and genuinely want feedback. They are willing and able to accommodate mixing and matching covers and systems to help individual preferences. Kudos to MisterArt for introducing them to me.

I looked over all the sketchbooks & portfolios as I decided what sort of wedding scrapbook to make. I love this book which can be disassembled. The pages fit in my inkjet printer. I am using the book for momentos, guestbook, photos, general keepsakes. I plan to decorate the cover. Love it!!

I have used Komtrak for several years and love this system. I have 2 8x11 horizontal and 2 5.5x8.5 vertical. I use the horizontal for both art and non-art classes. The smaller ones are for little projects at home, such as notes on house hunting. I purchased a heavy duty Docubind puncher, jackets and binding combs to put my course work in permanent books once I have finished a course. I combine the stock Komtrak paper with class handouts and a variety of art papers not supplied by Komtrack. I have about 20 bound books by now, reference them all the time, and use the Komtrak notebooks only for new courses, where I am adding new material all the time. My fellow students always want to know how it works and where they can get it !
