Is this paper acid- free?- Asked by Mr. Gary on 05-Dec-13
Essentially, yes. The expression "pH neutral" or "buffered" means that the natural acids from wood are balanced with alkalides to give the board permanency up to 1,000 years, which is what "acid-free" also does. In order for a paper to claim it is acid free it must be made with a PH balance of 6 or 7 (neutral) at the time of manufacturing. Museum-grade paper or canvases, for example, are often made from cotton rag, and not wood. Conservation grade is made from wood, but is balanced.- Answered by MisterArt on 05-Dec-13
