Do you have any instructions?

- Asked by Paul L on 17-Feb-14

The opaque projector is used to enlarge drawings from 2 - 14 times the original size. Place the image face up on a table and then set the projector on top of the image. The image window is 5 in. x 5 in. The size of the enlargement is adjusted by moving the projector closer to or further away from the surface onto which it is being projected.

I had always borrowed my son's Tracer to project pictures of homes I like to paint for gifts for friends and family. I decided it was time for me to get my own. As an amateur artist it helps me get the proportions more exact when I can 'project' the picture unto my canvass. So until I develop my art talent, this is working for me. I love that it does not limit me in my artwork.

I purchsed the Artograph tracer and right away it saved me a couple of hours painting a portrait. I used to use the graph method and drawing out the grid took forever. With the tracer all that was eliminated. I don't like the copy area only 5 X 5 because most pics or portraits I paint are rectangular. So this presents a problem when trying to put the picture on the canvas. But other than that it is great.

I received my tracer today and am very pleased with it. There are a couple of things to note that wasn't in the review. The copy size area is 5X5 which is square, most frames and pics are rectangular. I thought that I wuld be able to work with an 8X10 copy but this is not possible. Also, the projector moves easily, this can be stopped by adding masking tape to the bottom

I love this projector. I spent $42.00 on this projector and it does the job great for my needs. Here is what I found out when using this projector, but all of the problems are easily fixed and don't bother me at all. It uses a 100 Watt bulb so it does have to be dark in the room because that is not a very powerful bulb compared to other projectors, but that is not a problem at all. I put this on a T.V. tray and raise or lower it to fit my needs. All that I wanted this projector for was to get an image from a picture, magazine, book, etc... onto a canvas without the slow process of scaling. This projector does just that. I did not want to spend $150.00 Plus on and expensive fancy projector when this $42.00 one does the job just fine. I project the image onto the canvas and sketch it off in a matter of minutes. My advice is to get this projector and save the money for better paint and other supplies that really do make a difference. This projector gets the image from the page to the canvas with great clarity, and just as good as the expensive ones do. Better paints and other supplies do make a world of difference, but a fancy expensive projector doesn't in my opinion. Go with this projector and you won't be disappointed.

It works fine for small projects. The light tends to heat up pretty quickly, but other than that it works fine. For now, I am happy with it.

This works just fine; I had an expensive one and like this one as much. I figured out it's a good idea to put the photo you are projecting into a glass covered frame and then put the projector onto it; otherwise the heat from the lamp warps the photo and the image moves. This solved the problem. I don't have the patience or interest in copying every single line from the photo, so this is just fine for my purposes.

I think this is a nice product for the price. It is not as robust as I would like for fine art, but for kids or craft projects, it's great.

I was pleased at the quality of the image projected from this machine, relative to it's cost. However, it is limiting (and tiring) to trace on a wall rather than on a desktop. Another limitation is that this tracer starts enlarging at 200% of the original. I quite often want to enlarge to a smaller percent. This machine could do that if the manufacturer would add a plastic extension piece (to fit the lense focusing area. This would allow smaller increments of enlarging. Machine does get quite hot and thus limits the time spent tracing to short periods. As I am just a beginning artist, I could not justify the cost of the Artograph Prism or Super Prism but sure wish I could!

This works fine for the money spent. I can only use pics without any gloss over it and that is the problem. Can't use this with slides or photographs for any length of time. This is fine for now. As soon as I can get the moola together, I'll be buying a much, MUCH better system. Until then ............ ah, the limits of it all ...... Phyllis Markey artstuffstudio Colorado
