Unique Russian Sauce is a cross between a soft pastel and a Conte crayon. It combines high quality pigment with Chasov Yar clay and industrial carbon for a velvety smooth drawing crayon. Provided in a reusable wooden box with slide-out top. This set of ten colors includes Black, White, Gray, Light Gray, Warm Gray, Gray-Green, Gray-Azure, Brown, Ochre, and Bistre.

I like the feel of these chalks very much and plan to use them a lot. However the black is so crumbly that you really can't press on it very hard. The others all stand up to pressure and there is a dark charcoal you can use instead of black. I like the slightly oily "pull."

These work really well on smooth bristol unlike some pastels. They aren't waxy. They have more of a chalky texture on paper.You can easily use these with Gioconda (KOH-I-NOR)Artist Chalks too.
