Ceramic Spray Sealers are final spray coatings that produce smooth, hard surfaces. They are used to brighten the colors and protect the finishes of objects decorated with nonfired color products.

SS340 Gloss produces an extremely lustrous, smooth and hard final finish. This sealer provides the glossiest possible spray finish over both water-based and oil-based nonfired colors.

SS341 Satin produces a protective, satin-matte finish on ceramic bisque, plaster, and many other craft surfaces. Well suited as a final finish over drybrushed items.

SS342 Matte provides a shine-free protective surface.

Product Questions and Answers

Can I use this on fired pieces?

- Asked by L L Shanahan on 01-Jun-14

This product may be applied to bisqueware that has been painted with nonfired colors. If the piece has been glazed, it will no longer have a porous surface, and the spray sealer will not be able to adhere properly.

My spray is clogged. How can I get it to work?

- Asked by Julie Turrie on 28-Apr-14

Buy a replacement nozzle such as Standard Spray Accessories Nozzle by Liquitex.

- Answered by MisterArt on 29-Apr-14

Do I apply the spray finish before I antique a plaster craft piece?

- Asked by Jack on 11-Apr-14

The Duncan Spray Sealers are a final spray coating and should be applied after you have completed your project. Apply any antiquing technique first.

- Answered by MisterArt on 15-Apr-14

Will this work as an undercoat?

- Asked by sue on 27-Mar-14

The Ceramic Spray Sealer is a final spray coating. This should not be used as an undercoat.

- Answered by MisterArt on 02-Apr-14

I'm looking for a protective matte spray to use over my mid-fire porcelain mini-dish. Which of your matte sprays do you recommend?

- Asked by Grace on 07-Mar-13

You can use either the Duncan Super Matte or the Duncan Clear Matte if the surface of the porcelain has been painted with an acrylic-based paint.

- Answered by MisterArt on 15-Mar-13

I've sprayed my ceramic piece with Duncan Clear Matte. The problem is that the sealer was too old so it became glossy instead of matte. How can I remove it or at least reduce it to a matte finish?

- Asked by Pierre on 02-Mar-13

The Ceramic sealers are permanent once applied. By using a remover, it may ruin your ceramic piece. If the spray is old or defective, we would suggest returning the product back to the store you purchased it from. There is no product that will make the sealer workable again.

- Answered by MisterArt on 07-Mar-13

Is there any way I can paint on bathroom tiles and then spray or brush on a glaze to lock in the paint so it doesn't wash off?

- Asked by Tracy Tartaglione on 25-Feb-13

Since the tiles have already been glazed and sealed, the paint will not adhere to the surface of the tiles. You would need to apply a primer to strip the surface of the tile first. You may also have to sand the surface as well. Once this has been done, you can apply a paint to it. You can use the Delta air dry perm-enamel paints or the Liquitex Glosses paints.

- Answered by MisterArt on 26-Feb-13

I chalk a lot of ceramics and I need a matte spray in between each chalk application. Will this work in this application?

- Asked by Priscilla T. on 04-Jan-13

We would suggest using the Spray Workable Fixatif by Krylon or the Very Low Odor Spray Fix by Blair for your use.

- Answered by MisterArt on 07-Jan-13

Will this product seal a coffee cup that I designed with DecoColor Paint Marker?

- Asked by Cristina on 13-Dec-12

Yes, this product will work provided the coffee cup is ceramic or porcelain.

- Answered by MisterArt on 17-Dec-12

Does this product work on acrylic paint?

- Asked by Allie on 30-Nov-12

You can use this as a sealer over your acrylic paint.

Super sealer. Never runs or makes globs like cheaper ones can.

Works very well. We use this product for finishing our sandstone 3d printed figures, it is used in combination with the clear matte product as well. The super matte leaves a nice smooth finish to our products that we don't want glossy.

I love it! I am a doll maker and have had trouble finding a truly matte finish and sealant. This is the best, hands down!

I have used this and other sealers and have found I prefer the duncan ceramic spray sealer over the others.

This Spray is Great, dries quick and the colors do not run
Rated by: Christine O. in Festus, MO
Beautiful smooth finish without any runs or smears. I've tried other sealers in the past, but once you find a product that works so well, why waste your time and money on another?
Rated by: Sherry G. in Albion Iowa, IA
Truly the best sealers I've ever used, and I think I have tried them all.

Porcelain spray mimicks the look and feel of real porcelain. Great on ceramics done with stains and even over glazed surfaces. Also a great sealer in between and on top of layers of oil based colors. Highly recommended!

This spray smells horrible! I bought the Super Gloss spray to seal bisque fired ceramic pieces that my elementary students painted with watercolor and it works, but the smell is really bad. I left the pieces outside over night, and they still smelled. Even after 5 days, they still stink.

I am so happpy to get these online, the product came fast and packaged great. I love the product and was not able to find it where I live. It works wonderfully.
Rated by: cindy h. in Oregon, IL
Very nice spray. I use it to seal my ceramic pieces. Goes on nice and dries quick.

This product worked great. It was very easy to apply. We used to seal an antique terra cotta statue we have in the garden. Water just beads up on it, so it seems like it is working. Most importantly, it really does leave a nice matte finish--so shine at all just like the terra cotta was to begin with. This was VERY important to us and it really did what it said it would do.

The VERY BEST ever used! Will keep coming back for more!

Love Duncan's spray sealers. Great for outdoor pieces, stained, antiqued, dryburshed and holds up very well...
