Max Oil paints are a professional line of water miscible oil paint. Max paints dilute and can be cleaned-up using water instead of conventional solvents. This means you no longer need harsh, toxic solvents to clean your brushes, greatly simplified oil painting. It also means that Max is gentle to artists as well as the environment. Max has the same buttery feel, drying time and traditional appearance as conventional oil paints. Tests show that a painting done with Max Oil Colors will last as long as one done with conventional oil colors, provided the basic principles of oil painting are followed. Available in vibrant colors made from authentic artist pigments. Non-toxic. You can even mix Max with your favorite mediums to glaze, speed drying, and improve flow, yet still wash up with simple soap and water. 1.25 oz. tubes.

Customer Product Reviews

As a person with allergies and sensitive skin, oil painting kind of dropped off of my radar. I tolerated acrylics much better, but I am thrilled with the water miscible choices we now have. I have found the Grumbacher brand delivers the most pleasing results. Although I wouldn't turn down other brands, I found that I have a definite preference for the "Grums."

I purchased the Grumbacher Miscible Oils for my wife, the artistic one in the family, and she loves them. Great price, quality and delivery.

I like everything about these paints except the very limited selection of colors. If they had sufficient colors for a primary or cyan/magenta/yellow mixing palette, I would be more enthusiastic. They stay moist on an open palette much longer than the other brands I've tried.

The only paint I will use on my reborn dolls, the colors and texture are fantastic

I get migraines from solvents. I've used Max for 3 yrs. Love the products. I have painted with both traditional and waterbase and I can not tell the difference in the end products. Just a great way for me to stay in the oil arena.

I was glad to find the full selection of colors of Max Oils at MisterArt.com - my local store does not carry the full line. Great paint products!

i think these max oil paints are quite extraordinary. you will have to learn how to use them -- the SOLVENT is water and the MEDIUMS are the max linseed oil products. you MUST mix the max linseed oil of choice with the paint FIRST, then add water according to the thin/thick/wash you desire. and you really can clean it up with soap and water! i find i like stiffer brushes with this product, but that may just be me.
Rated by: Barbara S. in Windsor, NC
I have used Max oils for about a year exclusively when I developed a breathing problem. I like them better than any oil paint I have ever used because they are very easy to manipulate - buttery and thin well with max medium. The secret to adding water to this paint (and you can) is to first use the medium (dip brush in medium and then mix with paint) and then dip in water and dilute this mixture. What is misleading about being able to mix water with this paint is that some think the medium can be diluted with water and it cannot. The shine can be controled with the amount of water used.

These paints have a nice buttery consistecy, the colors are brilliant, easy to work with, just don't mix them with water, they do turn grey! Use one of the Max recommended mediums. Clean-up is a snap and so much easier on your brushes.
