Acid Dyes

by Jacquard

Jacquard Acid Dyes are concentrated, powdered, hot water dyes that produce the most vibrant possible results on protein fibers including silk, wool, cashmere, alpaca, feathers, and most nylons. Don't be alarmed by the name--the only acid involved is the vinegar that you add. Packaged in convenient, reclosable 1/2 oz. jar which will color about two pounds of fiber. Jacquard Acid Dyes are extremely brilliant and colorfast. If you can do a load of laundry, you can use these dyes. It's that easy. In addition to garment dyeing in a washing machine, you can use to paint or print.

Product Questions and Answers

Ask a Question
Ask a Question

Can you use this to dye synthetic rope.

- Asked by S.M. Williams on 04-Dec-13

It is for use on protein fibers. If it is nylon rope then it should be OK.

- Answered by MisterArt on 04-Dec-13

I have a pair of tan and light-green nylon convertible cargo pants that recently got bleach spots on them from the wash. Is it possible to use these Acid Dyes to dye them Navy Blue?

- Asked by Frank on 04-Aug-13

You can use these dyes on fabric. However, since the pants have bleach spots on them, there may be some inconsistency in color where the bleach spots are. You may have to dye the pants a few times to get the color even.

- Answered by MisterArt on 07-Aug-13

Is one jar of the Acid Dyes by Jacquard enough to die a long silk dress (size 10)?

- Asked by Sylwia S on 17-Jul-13

One 1/2 oz. jar of Jacquard Acid Dye can dye up to 2 lbs. of fabric. We recommend getting two jars just to be on the safe side.

- Answered by MisterArt on 18-Jul-13

Can I use this on lace?

- Asked by ashlyn mernagh-iles on 18-Mar-13

The Jacquard Acid Dyes can be used on protein fibers: wool, cashmere, alpaca, feathers, silk and some nylons. It does not indicate this dye can be used on lace.

- Answered by MisterArt on 20-Mar-13

How will acid dye work on clothing that is both cotton and synthetic, like spandex?

- Asked by Rick on 13-Jan-13

These acid dyes are not suggested for use on synthetic fabrics. We suggest using the Dye-Na-Flow Fabric Colors by Jacquard.

- Answered by MisterArt on 15-Jan-13

Can this be used in an airbrush?

- Asked by Hobo on 27-Nov-12

The Acid Dyes by Jacquard cannot be used in a airbrush.

- Answered by MisterArt on 28-Nov-12

Would I be able to dye only certain parts and not others? For example, could I dye the straps of a dress but not the rest of it?

- Asked by Patty Walter on 23-Nov-12

We do not recommend using this dye for your use. You won't be able to dye only certain parts of the dress as the whole dress would need to be submerged in hot water during the dying process.

- Answered by MisterArt on 26-Nov-12

Can I use this on silk?

- Asked by Jackie D. on 07-Nov-12

The Jacquard Acid Dyes can be used on silk.

- Answered by MisterArt on 09-Nov-12

Is it possible to mix colors together to get a new color?

- Asked by Vicki on 19-Sep-12

Yes, these dyes are inter-mixable.

I love these dyes. They are perfect for use on wool and silk, and the colors are gorgeous and intense. Great price here at Misterart.com. Fast shipping. Perfect!

I thought my cashmere sweater was a lost cause due to a coffee stain. I decided to try this before tossing it. If I'd used more it may have been a little darker, but it came out a great gun-metal gray and saved my sweater. I followed the directions and had consistant color coverage and no shrinkage or damage. I'm happy as a clam!
Rated by: Cam S. in Concord, NH
I have used these dyes many times, easy to work with and clean up and have a consistant color match everytime. Common sense, a clean work area, and following the instruction guidlines yields excellent results. I will most certainly buy this product from this site again!

haven't used these yet. i bought four colors to use on gourds. The delivery time was great. The colors look like the hues I hoped for

I started using Jacquard Acid Dyes a year ago and haven't looked back! I love the range of the colors that are available and the ability they give me to produce vibrant colors or deeper tones. Nothing but fantastic stuff in these little jars, I suggest picking some up immediately if you haven't already! One of every color!
Rated by: ME B. in Rindge, NH
I really like using these dyes for my wool products. The colors are very clean, the dye is easy to store, and the selection of colors is wonderful. I only wish the top of the bottle was wider, so I could get a teaspoon inside.
Rated by: Denise E. in everett, WA
These dyes are new to me but I am enjoying the colors. I dye wool yardage for rug hooking. The dyes arrived quickly.
Rated by: Laura N. in Cypress, TX
This is my primary dye for my yarns. I love the bright colors and how well it takes to the yarn, it works really great on wool and silk. I also love the fact that the only thing I need to add to this dye is the vinegar. Great product for someone who has no clue about dyeing, or is dyeing yarn for the first time.
Rated by: Terry T. in Baltimore, MD
I use Jacquard Acid Dyes to dye yarn. The colors are so vivid and accurate every time. I can always count on these dyes to do the job.
Rated by: Michael S. in Baltimore, MD
I love the bright and beautiful colors you can get with these. For wools and silks I can't imagine using anything else.
Rated by: Susan G. in Carlsbad, CA
I wear synthetic (not human hair) wigs. I am a color specialist, so I am very picky about what color of hair I have on and have used RIT dye on wigs for 10 years. Jacquard Dyes have more choices and WOW the color is vibrant.
Rated by: Joy H. in Billings, MT
These are fantastic! It took me a long time to work up the courage to work acid dyes but the array of Jacquard colors and ease of use makes it so worth it! I'm completely smitten!
Rated by: Lorraine G. in Lynnwood, WA
These dyes are brilliant and colorfast on wool and silk, and this website offers the best price available by far.
Rated by: Cindy H. in Elmhurst, NY
These dyes are pretty good for the price. They are vibrant, and a small amount can dye a lot of fiber.
Rated by: Irene S. in Bound Brook, NJ
These dyes are excellent. I'll be buying this brand whenever I need to dye something....way superior to what you can buy in the grocery store!!
Rated by: Tamara L. in Glendale, KY
These dyes are convenient and very easy to use. They give wonderful consistent results and only need a little vinegar added to the dye bath to set. The color range is nice and they blend well together to give an endless variety of colors. They deserve 5 stars for quality but I only gave 4 because the color names are not always consistent with what I expect (example: Olive should have a green hue but is actually a shade of brown) Definitely select colors by the colorchart and not by name.
Rated by: Amanda T. in Fulton, NY
I love these dyes! I use them for dyeing wool and I end up with beautiful, vibrant colors that are a joy to spin! Very easy to use and a small amount goes a long way.
Rated by: Joe K. in Creede, CO
Jacquard Acid Dyes are the best that I have found. I have tried others but these are the easiest to use, even in the winter without opening doors and windows. Many of the other dyes are place or time restrictive, these are not.
Rated by: Jordan J. in Petaluma, CA
Jacquard acid dyes are beautiful, vibrant and very easy to use. I just wish they would come in natural hair colors (blondes, browns, aurburns) besides the regular jewel tones. I dye a lot of mohair and I find it hard to achieve natural colors unless I do a lot of mixing.
Rated by: Kaija K. in Fort Lauderdale, FL
I thought they were great, and very reasonably priced. I will buy from misterart.com again!
Rated by: Kerry F. in Purcellville, VA
fantastically easy to use...I use a small bit in a mason jar for dying rice paper....colors are brilliant and colorfast...have really added pizzazz to my mixed media artwork!
Rated by: Lisa H. in E Tawas, MI
The dyes were wonderful. Very little bleeding, vibrant colors, and easy.
Rated by: Cheryl S. in Lincoln, NE
These are wonderfully easy to use. Extremely bright colors. Very good color take up by the wool and silk fibers. Easy to clean up when done and remaining dye can be saved and used at a later date.
Rated by: Deborah S. in Sherborn, MA
Dyes are very easy to use and realiable.
Rated by: Deborah S. in Sherborn, MA
Jacquard dyes have been instrumental in our dyeing process on our farm with wool products from our fiber animals. It is simple, colors are reliable and color fast.
Rated by: Barbara H. in Spotsylvania, VA
I recently purchased Jacquard Acid Dye to salvage an expensive silk suit that had become spotted with water marks. As advertised, the dye was as simple to use in the washing machine as laundering clothes. One empty run of the washing machine after completion of the dye process removed any stain from the machine. The colors dyed and dried evenly on the silk fabric. I doubt that anyone would think the suit had been dyed. The results are beautiful and for very little money salvaged one of my favorite silk dress suits. I will definitely use this dye again.
