This book and its companion volumes are among the very best anatomy books for painters and sculptors. Bridgman was one of the greatest life drawing instructors at the Art Students League of New York for more than thirty years. He had great skill in being able to communicate to students what anatomy was essential for an artist. The drawings in this book focus the artist’s eye on what is essential for understanding and rendering anatomy. This book is divided into logical chapters and each chapter is intended as a complete lesson. The chapters have both text and detailed illustrations that beautifully illustrate Bridgman’s insights. This book and its companions, collected in “Bridgman’s Complete Guide to Drawing from Life”, are absolutely essential tools for any artist who intends to paint or understand the figure from the classical and realist points of view. For a painter sculptor there are no substitutes.
