Marblex Self Hardening Clay

by Amaco

Modeled objects are permanent without firing. A gray clay, Marblex is prepared in plastic form and ready to use. Air dried pieces are hard and durable, but not waterproof. A sealer must be used to make objects waterproof.

I used the amaco self hardening clay with my Webelos scouts. The clay was easy to work with and the boys had fun making pots and then painting them with acrylic paints. Would definately use again.

Once a shape is formed and dried can this product be glued to another medium?

- Asked by Peekay on 20-Oct-12

That will depend on your adhesive and the medium you are adhering the dried clay piece to. A strong glue like E6000 will work for a variety of different substrates.

The clay seemed durable once dried. It was soft enough for kids with decreased strength in their fingers to manipulate.

This self-hardening clay is very convenient for people who don't have easy access to a kiln. I recommend it to everyone!

In this part of the world, where everything comes in by jet, you have to consider what it would take to get kiln fired clay out here and what use it would be without a kiln because it was too expensive to fly it in. So when clay like this comes available (and I’ve used this before when I was young and poor) you have to take what you can get. It’s not what I prefer, but we just covered that. This clay, for your money, is about the best you’ll get. It tends to get very brittle in places made thin, so it’s not really good for small works (chess pieces, etc) but small bust work it’s great. If you’re just starting out in clay and want to save your pieces then this is about the best for your bucks!
