Artist Watercolor

by Holbein

Holbein Artist's Watercolor is a European style transparent watercolor which also preserves the brush handling qualities inherent in traditional Japanese watercolor techniques. It may be re-wetted easily like a pan color. For this reason Holbein does not produce watercolors in pan form, but allows artists to create their own selection. Fill the wells of a suitable palette with the desired color selection. Permit to dry, the wet the color when needed. Holbein offers a 108-color range of moist transparent watercolor in both 5 ml and 15 ml tubes.

These are the folks who brought us Opera. If more people were aware of Holbein, there's a certain outfit with two names that would be in big trouble, because Holbein's watercolours are great -- yeah, the colour names take a bit of getting used to, but so what? They are unbelievably smooth, rewet as if they were born to it, and make up a wonderful palette. I have used them in paintings and illustration work, and another advantage is that they seem to have fewer problems in being reproduced or photographed as well. Being fully pigmented, they are much to be preferred over student grade paints like Academy and Cotman. Try one or two and I promise you will be hooked!
