Washi Paper Rolls

by Aitoh

Washi is a style of paper that has been used throughout Japanese history in a wide variety of applications. These Shuji Gami and Shoji Gami paper rolls are made from the Kozo, also known as the Paper Mulberry Tree. These papers are translucent white in color, feature a smooth surface on one side, and a slight tooth on the other. Shuji Gami and Shoji Gami are uniquely suited for Sumi-E, watercolor, and Asian calligraphy.

It is not smooth paper as there is a pronounced texture, but there is no imprint.

Can I use these papers for printing woodcuts?

- Asked by Mead McCabe on 31-Aug-13

If the ink is water-based then I am sure you could use this paper, which is recommended for sumi and calligraphy.

Does this paper have the texture that rice paper generally has?

- Asked by Hanifah on 27-May-13
