As far as bristle brushes go, these are strong and hardy, and the hairs don't clump up. Also, the thick wood handles feel very solid. However, I'm not a fan of bristle brushes in general -- too rough, too streaky, and the sound of them scratching across the canvas always grates on my nerves. I much prefer Langnickel royal sables. Much softer hairs, and they actually hold more paint than bristle brushes.

I have tried the most expensive brushes in the world but ninety five percent of my brushes are the Robert Simmons bristle filberts and I use them almost exclusively.
Rated by: Angela K. in bowling green, KY
great brushes that hold up well at a great price.
Rated by: Brenda W. in Placerville, CA
As a working artist I have come to rely entirely on these brushes - they are the best out there.

recommended by a great painter and I've had good luck with robert simmons in the past so bought some for a recent workshop. really love the feel and ability to clean these white hair bristles. takes a beating as i am a little rough on brushes. a very fine deal! you won't be sorry. i've tried many different brands and if you are a plein air painter, these are indispensible.

Great brushes for the price. Last a long time

When I was at the art student's league, this was the brand they carried. It is the best bristle on the market.

Great brush

i like the sturdiness of the brush. it's good for working fast and not getting obsessed with pictorial details.
Rated by: Rich F. in Cottonwood Heights, UT
Durable and easy to clean. Great feel in my hand.
Rated by: Timothy C. in Philomont, VA
I have used these brushes for the last 15 years, and they consistently measure up. Good length, dependable, and have a nice spring to them. These are my favorites, along with the Silver filberts.
Rated by: Gerson B. in Glendora, CA
I use these brushes in a classroom setting and they sure can take a beating. Excellent brushes for fine work.

Signets don't lose hairs, retain their shape and are affordable so you can have extras so that you can paint with the same sized brush and different colors.
Rated by: Brian D. in Van Nuys, CA
I've been very fortunate to make a good living for three decades as an artist painting oils 99% of the time. I've tried every brand that I've seen and the Robert Simmons bristle brushes are my favorites, at any price. There are some other brands which are more expensive and very good, but none surpass Robert Simmons in consistant quality.

Excellent! Best quality bristle brushes at a very moderate price. This quality brush would cost at least twice this price in the stores.
Rated by: Joan C. in forest hills, NY
By far the best bristle brush out there. The bristles stay in the same shape forever (I no longer wash my brushes with soap and water and find they last longer--just turpentine or mineral spirits.) They have just the right spring and the flatness allows a lot of control. Art Students League carries these, so I'm in good company when I say they are the best bristle out there.

Robert Simmons brushes are the best I've ever used!
