Product Questions and Answers

Do you have any instructions?

- Asked by Lauren S. on 16-Apr-14

Apply light coats evenly across the surface. Allow each coat to dry completely before applying the next. Make sure the can is the recommended distance from the paper to avoid getting too much saturation at one time. When completely dry, use an acrylic brush-on gloss varnish (or matte varnish) for the final coat.

Can this item be used on envelopes to prevent ink from smearing?

- Asked by susan a on 15-Mar-14

This product is primarily for dry media such as pencil and charcoal to hold the powdery pigments in place during continued work. Heavy spraying on top of an ink may actually rewet it and cause bleeding. The effects would vary based on the type of ink used.

Can you use a water-based poly acrylic finish over this product?

- Asked by Lona on 20-Nov-13

It is compatible with tempera and inks, which are water-based. However, you might want to experiment with a sample piece first, to see if it does what you want it to.

I wanted something to protect a computer-printed outline of a digital image from smudging so that I can watercolor the image. Can I spray this and then paint on top of it? Or, am I reading that it is only for a finished colored image?

- Asked by Judy S on 17-Jun-13

Workable fixative means just that; you may still work on it after spraying. It protects, but it is not a final fixative but still able to be workable so you can paint on it afterward. With regards to watercolor, you may need to play around with the surface a bit afterward to see the best way to let the paint stick.

I can not be without this product. It is the best and it is harder to find. So Thank you for having it. This sealer is the best for preventing bleeding. It dries fast and lightly. Perfect.

I was told that fixitive would change the color of my soft pastels, but I was very thrilled.

This is a very good product for preserving pastel artwork. It should be sprayed in a very well ventilated area-- best used outside.
Rated by: Amanda G. in New Bern, NC
Works just as described. I've used this on several of my sketches in progress, and to protect some of my finished pieces, and it works beautifully. However I just have to say when it says to use in a well ventilated area you may want to consider spraying this outside if you have small children, pets, or are just really sensitive to fumes (like me!). The smell can linger. Other than that this is a great product!

I have used this product for years,on my fine pencil drawings. It is a grat product. The price is outstanding, half of what you pay for it in the retail shops. It shipped to me intact and undamaged. Just another great product purchased through MisterArt.

Worked beautifully in protecting rubbings of old family tombstones. No smudging. Smooth spray without heavy spurts of liquid. Recommend.

sprays easily out of can, does the job without making the surface unworkable
Rated by: Billie S. in Lancaster, CA
This really works well! It's just what I needed to keep my ink from smearing. Must be careful to use in a well ventilated area away from flames. Very strong odor when using but it goes away quickly.
