Staedtler Lumocolor orange markers are the best choice for drawing your route on an orienteering map. Period.

The Staedtler Lumocolor overhead markers are the best. They are far superior to the Vis-A-Vis markers stocked by my school. I teach chemistry and for once my overheads with detailed equations are readable due to the fine points on these markers. They start fine and stay fine: no spreading like the Vis-a-Vis. Both the permanent and nonpermanent are good. And the best news of all is that you can get lumocolor erasers or eraser pens to fix mistakes made when writing on transparencies.
