400 Series Bristol Pads

by Strathmore

Acid-free. When the longevity of cotton fibers is not required, both intermediate and professional artists recommend the 400 Series Bristol. The toothy texture of the regular (vellum) surface works well with pencil, charcoal and pastel. The smooth surface is ideal for detailed ink work and is also suited for pencil and marker. Both surfaces are excellent for airbrush. Tape bound so sheets can be easily removed, and sheets will have smooth, straight edges. 2 ply thickness (115 pounds), 15 sheet pads.

The Bristol Pads worked wonderfully for drawing with charcoal and then adding a watercolor technique at the end of the project. Although they warped when they dried, I then used"paper cement" to adhere them to black poster board and pressed with heavy books. They ended up quite flat and looked great!

I was truly disappointed in how this bristol held up once I started inking. It was okay for brushwork , but anything I did with a nib bled like crazy. I even purchased rapidograph pens to use instead and even they bleed once in a while. I bought 3 pads and am now stuck with an inferior product. I considered returning them, but that would mean redoing all of the finished pencils. Because I took an art class last year and several students had issues with bleeding on the 500 series Strathmore I think I am going to switch to another brand. Overall, this was a frustrating experience. I would have gladly paid full price for a superior product.

Love this paper so much, but did it have to come in such a HUGE box? Eh, oh well, I'm very satisfied with this product :) Its wonderful for my inks and pencils <3

Vellum is wonderful to work with! This is the second drawing done on vellum with art pencil & ink tense water colour pencils. Such a smooth surface, easily accepts.
Rated by: James I. in wisconsin, WI
Truly a wonderful product. I have used it for both pen and brush and it accepts ink very well without any feathering. As for using brush and ink it accepts washes and dry brush splendidly.

This paper is great! It is extremely smooth and can resist lots of erasing. I am very happy with it.
Rated by: Cindy B. in Grand Junction, CO
I really love this heavy, smooth "paper." I use it with pencil, pen and ink, marker, even opaque paint.
Rated by: Mark H. in Indianapolis, IN
This pad works really well for both pencils and pen, and has very easily removable pages... add to that the reasonable price, and this is very likely the bristol pad I will be buying a lot more often!

i love this paper. its perfect for airbrushing

this paper takes a good deal of erasing and reworking with a pencil. my favorite bristol series is 500, but this is a good everyday bristol.

I constantly need new art supplies for my classes, and have always liked Strathmore. MisterArt.com had the best price I found anywhere, including the shipping cost.

I've been drawing my cartoons on Strathmore 400 Series Bristol Board for years, and I only recently discovered MisterArt.com as a source for it. Your service and price were excellent! I'm a very happy customer and will be back!

Great paper for photo realist charcoal drawings. I love the smooth dense surface and the thickness of the paper. Even when sprayed with fixative the paper does not curl when dried.
Rated by: Elisabeth T. in Oblong, IL
This is the BEST paper for doing high detail pencil work. It erases like a dream, and takes a crisp dark line as well as soft strokes and blending. I have been looking for this paper since I used it once years ago and forgot the maker and exact type. I suppose I went through 20 or so different papers till I 'rediscoverd' 400 Series Bristol. Try it, you won't want anything else for pencil medium.

Love it! so enjoyable to work with.
Rated by: Kiel W. in Post Falls, ID
This is some of the best art material on the market.
Rated by: Darla D. in Snellville, GA
This is the best paper I have found for fine, soft pencil detailing like I do in my portraits. The surface is nice and smooth. I smooth my pencil with tissue and totillions. I have tried other brands, but this is the smoothest you can get without stepping up to 'plate' finish, which is far more expensive. This paper is also suitable for other art mediums, like markers. I am very pleased with it and have ordered a lot of it over the last few years.
