Winsor & Newton offers a choice of solvents for diluting oils and alkyds and for cleaning brushes and equipment.

English Distilled Turpentine is a traditional solvent, with characteristic odor and good wetting properties. Highly refined from essential oil, it is water white, volatile and flammable.

Sansodor is a less toxic, low odor alternative to Turpentine. It’s slow to evaporate, making it highly useful in controlling Griffin Alkyd and oil colors, and has low flammability.

I find the distilled turpentine too expensive to clean my brushes, but it is the best as a thinner for oil media. Been using it for decades. Of course, the no-scent is a must.
