Watercolor Paper

by Arches

This 100% rag, water-marked watercolor paper is mould-made in France. The sheets are hand inspected for consistency and quality in surface, texture, and performance.

Because the paper has been sized both in the beater and again after the sheet has been formed, repeated erasures can be done without any feathering.

Special felts give a handsome grain finish to the cold pressed paper. Hot pressed sheets have a consistently smooth surface.

All sheets have four deckle edges.

This is the best paper ever. I draw on it with charcoal, I do collage and mixed media on it. It is tough and withstands a lot of abuse. For watercolor it is the holy grail.

I was a little dissapointed with this paper, I do like the bright whiteness of the paper, but it doesn't absorb the water like I'm use to.

Nothing beats 300 lb. Arches CP watercolor paper for brilliant washes, control, professional qualities. It can be put on a drum for reproduction, yet is heavy enough so that you don't have to stretch it, and can really take a beating. I recommend my students to only use the best as it will make their learning job so much easier.

I am very pleased with Arches. It is the only watercolor paper I buy.

I use Arches Hot press for watercolor painting for the smooth surface and the 300 lb cold press for mixed media ink/charcoal/acrylic paintings. It is great stuff and this is the best price I've found.
Rated by: Debbie B. in Ennis, TX
Wonderful paper and packed for shipping to preserve the quality.

I use this incredible watercolor paper for my fine art Giclee reproductions. When I print an image onto this paper it comes out looking even better than the original. In one word, this paper is "amazing". The quality is great and at MisterArt.com it comes at a great price!

I have been painting watercolors for 15 years and I am also instruct watercolor lessons. Having tried many different watercolor papers, I always return to Arches watercolor paper. It is the best for all skill levels.

As usual the reliable d'arches lives up to expectation. The roughis wonderful to use for granulating colors and to create depth in transparent colors. I have been experimenting with it stretched on a frame, vs. taped to a board, and I really like the frame stretched results One suggestion, use synthetic brushes, not your lovely kolinsky's with this paper. The natural hair wears down quickly.

D'Arches, is the best watercolor paper I have found, it takes the colors and dose not fade. I have painting that are 25 years old and the color is still fresh. The 300 lb can be painting on with out streching. I don't use any other paper, and I have tryed most of them. D'Arches workes for me, and gives the best results, and when you work on a painting for weeks, you don't want the paper to fail.

This is the best watercolor paper around! It dries well and leaves no watermarks. I would recommend this paper to anyone!
Rated by: Robert C. in Everett, PA
Excellent paper. I have 6 or 8 different varieties of paper, and I cut strips from each and tested them with color - both stretched and non-stretched. With one exception (a $12 handmade), Arches was visibly superior to every other paper I had (mostly Fabriano and Strathmore, CP, HP, Soft Press, Rough etc.). To be fair, I haven't compared it to the Winsor-Newton paper yet - I have great expectations for that one! But the Arches took the paint smoothly, kept the colors bright, didn't absorb too quickly, and can take punishment (scrubbing, masking fluid, etc). For the money, it's the best I've found.

The 300 lbs. rough watercolor paper is my favorite because it is so versatile. If you like glazing with your watercolors, this paper is ideal. It stays as stiff as a board at all times. It is almost impossible to oversaturate the paper and create weak spots and holes. It can be erased and painted on withour causing much damage to the surface too. It is great for heavier applications of paint, especially gouache and metallic watercolors. I also recommend this paper for anyone working with color pencils acrylic, oil pastel and and even oil bars! In the case of the last 3 the paper does not even need to be primed. You can even use solvents on this paper and it holds together with minimal yellowing on the back.
Rated by: Bill P. in Murrieta, CA
Still the best watercolor paper in the world. In recent years it has backed of in its toughness a bit (doesn't take scrubbing as good as it used to) but still a great paper. It's reliable. You know, after using it for a while, how it will perform everytime. I like a few other papers too: (1) the paper in Canson All-media sketch book is wonderful for sketching, and you can paint on both sides. (2) And, the handmade papers you can buy that come from India villages, called Punjab, etc., usually in hardbound sketchbook journals. the texture of washes painting on this paper is gorgeous (but the surface is much more delicate than Arches--you can't use masking fluid or do corrections; so direct painting is in order with a minimum of fuss).

Great Watercolor paper. Very resilient. Responded well to frisket.
Rated by: Danielle G. in Scottsdale, AZ
Arches Bright White paper is the only kind I use for my classes, because I know I can trust it to have similar and good results every time. It takes corrections and masking fluid well, which is ideal for a beginner. My only complaint is that the paper smells like ripe feet, especially when wet - something I've mostly gotten used to, but probably will never be able to completely ignore. Fortunately, the quality of the paper makes it worth it.
