Product Questions and Answers

Can I use Aleene's Clear Gel Tacky Glue to bond rubber to rubber?

- Asked by Richard Winter on 21-Apr-14

We recommend using the Super Thick Tacky Glue by Aleene's for a rubber surface.

- Answered by MisterArt on 23-Apr-14

Can I use this glue on metal and rubber foam? (a protector to base of metal lamp)

- Asked by Disc on 24-Mar-14

For metal and rubber we would suggest using a stronger adhesive such as Gorilla Glue or Locrite Super Glue.

- Answered by MisterArt on 27-Mar-14

I made a pendant by gluing a photo on a plastic domino. After it dried I used Clear Tacky Glue as a sealant. When that dried it looked and felt like glass. I love the look but am wondering if it will stay looking clear or will it change color over time?

- Asked by Holly on 17-Nov-13

I spoke with the manufacturer and they said that it will indeed stay looking like glass, but because it is not acid-free, after time, it may yellow the photo underneath.

- Answered by MisterArt on 18-Nov-13

Can this glue be used to glue egg shells to dominos?

- Asked by Holly on 15-Oct-13

Because the egg shell is porous, you will need to use a clear varnish; possibly something you could use as an adhesive as well. You could search clear sealers on our site using the search box above, and the best multi-purpose adhesive we have is the e-600 craft adhesive, which is fairly quick-drying.

- Answered by MisterArt on 15-Oct-13

Can I use Aleene's Clear Gel Tacky Glue on wood to add decoupage?

- Asked by Cindy on 19-Apr-13

For your use, we would recommend using the Fast Finish Decoupage by Beacon.

- Answered by MisterArt on 23-Apr-13

Is this waterproof after drying?

- Asked by Diane E on 19-Oct-12

This adhesive is not waterproof.

- Answered by MisterArt on 26-Oct-12

Customer Product Reviews

I love this glue, but then again I use it differently than what it's normal use is. If you are gluing glass or plastic, I wouldn't use this glue. Otherwise, it is great albeit it does take a bit for it to dry and cure. I actually contacted the manufacturer to see if I could by this stuff by the gallon. Apparently, they only have the 4 oz bottle, but will be offering an 8 ounce bottle soon.
Rated by: Aiste in Miami Beach, FL
This glue is awful. I used it to glue glass tiles on pictures and had to wait 24 hours for it to dry, but it was still wet after and the glass came off so easily like I was using water.

I ordered these smaller bottles for my students to use in a math project in class (grade 2). They worked very well and were easy for them to use. We were gluing dried beans to popsicle sticks for counting in tens, so I needed the glue to hold up.
Rated by: Eileen B. in Laredo, TX
I just used this for the first time and love it. It is easier to work with than the original Aleene's tacky glue for two reasons. 1. It is clear (before drying) so you can see better as you work. 2. The bottle is much easier to squeeze. With the original, I usually have to remove the top and scoop out the glue.
