I bought one of these to use for varnishing my oil paintings and am pretty pleased by the performance, given the price. Yes, as others here have mentioned, some hairs fall out–I've been painting for over 30 years and have yet to find a brush line that doesn't shed. It's not excessive and brush hairs are easily removed if you get them before whatever you're laying down dries.

I have used hundreds of these brushes for years with great success at an affordable price. For the first time with my most recent order I had problems with the ends of the bristles breaking off and getting into my painting. Also, there were more long hairs falling out as well. The bristles were not as soft and flexible as in the past. I am afraid the manufacturer is constructing a brush of a lesser quality. Does anyone know an alternative?

I was unhappy at first because of the hairs falling out while gessoing a large board, but I read somewhere that hairs will fall out of hake and similar brushes when they are new, but if it is a good brush, it will stop "shedding" and that proved to be the case with this brush. I use it just to gesso my larger canvas boards.

Plenty of bristles, but I have found to many hairs on my canvas. Because I am new to painting with acrylics and gesso there may be a better way to approach putting the gesso on where hairs would not be falling out.

Great coverage, but not so great smell.

Very good. Hair doesn't fall out onto your canvas. I will buy the same brand again.
