E-Z Strokes are extremely versatile translucent underglazes. They have a broad firing range that allows them to be used on almost all clay bodies, and E-Z Strokes’ translucent quality makes them suitable for use with a number of techniques, including airbrushing, antiquing, and brushwork.

As a pure pigment-based paint, E-Z Strokes is the simplest form of fired color. Their intense pigments allow high definition and brilliant decoration for any project. You can use E-Z Strokes just like watercolors, in layers of transparent/translucent, bold, pure color, and, just like watercolors, you can intermix all the E-Z Strokes colors.

E-Z Strokes are non-toxic and lead free. They are food safe when properly covered with a lead free clear glaze. E-Z Strokes are available in 1 oz. bottles.

Product Questions and Answers

How many coats of E-Z do we have to apply?

- Asked by magda on 26-Feb-14
Answer

One coat offers good coverage for a translucent design. Additional strokes may be applied for deeper color and shading.

- Answered by MisterArt on 28-Feb-14

Do the Duncan E-Z Stroke underglazes work well with a high fire, cone 10?

- Asked by Susan Aoki on 20-Feb-14
Answer

Yes, some of the Duncan E-Z Stroke underglazes are capable of high fire, cone 10. Duncan recommends firing a test piece as higher firing results vary. According to their Mid-range (cone 6) Performance Index, the following glazes are not recommended for cone 6 or higher firing temperatures: EZ 013 White, EZ 069 Azure Blue, and 071 Dark Olive.

- Answered by MisterArt on 25-Feb-14

Are these low-fire glazes or high-fire glazes? Are they supposed to be applied once the piece has been bisque fired? If so what cone ranges?

- Asked by Jaz on 13-Nov-13
Answer

The Premixed E-Z Stroke Translucent Underglazes should be fired to shelf cone 04. You would only need to apply them once to greenware for translucent designs. For richer depth and shading, apply additional coats. You can apply a Clear Glaze, stilt, and fire to shelf cone 06.

- Answered by MisterArt on 13-Nov-13

How do you thin the pre-mixed underglaze?

- Asked by JudyKY on 04-May-13

The Duncan Premixed E-Z Stroke Translucent Underglazes can be diluted with water.

- Answered by MisterArt on 09-May-13

Is it possible to use them on natural eggs?

- Asked by Veronique Garcia on 01-Dec-12

I have used these for years and love them. The only issue I have had is with the neon colors. The over glaze tends to not want to adhere to it, actually, now that I think about it, I have had the issue with some of the other colors such as poppy orange and coral. I try to add extra glaze, but at times it can come out too thick... more trial and error to come.

Excellent for drawing and painting details in ceramics. The paint flows easily with every brush stroke. The result is a watercolor paint in ceramic pieces.

This is the first time I have used an underglaze on my miniature dolls in the greenware stage. I used the Duncan EZ stroke in white to paint the eyes and they look great plus it saved me an extra firing in the kiln.

Duncan E Z Strokes are the best on the market. I have tried other brands and believe me, Duncan is the very best. The colors are soft and smooth and I love that watercolor effect. Give them a try and see for yourself!!

These are awesome for for watercolor effects. You can shade and highlight with these and add a 3-d look. I highly recommend them.
