Product Questions and Answers

How do you apply Grumbacher's matte final fixative on pencil drawings?

- Asked by John J. Fahsbender on 21-Apr-14

Clear the surface of dust and dirt. Set the work vertically. Shake the can vigorously. Test spray on white paper. Hold can upright 12 in. from the artwork. Apply in a side to side motion evenly. Allow 5 minutes between coats if multiple coats are needed.

Will Prismacolor final fixative spray keep Sharpie art on canvas from bleeding?

- Asked by mary on 08-Jan-14

This is mainly for pastels and colored pencils, not wet media such as alcohol-based inks. Try applying multiple thin coats of Lascaux Aerosol Spray Fixative. Be sure to mist the work from a distance rather than a pressurized spray which could reactivate the Sharpie ink and cause bleeding on a non-porous surface such as primed canvas.

Can this fixative be used to seal a fabric that has an image printed with an inkjet printer?

- Asked by Jacki on 07-Jan-14

This fixative is designed for paper or photo paper, not fabric. Most Inkjet prints can be heat set with an iron to make them washfast. For the best results, use pretreated fabrics. In the case of an already printed image, might try applying a fabric medium such as GAC 900 or Fabric Mod Podge.

Can I apply a urethane gloss finish over a workable fixative?

- Asked by MD west on 30-Sep-13

Because this is acrylic based, you can use acrylic, oil, or polyurethane, although oil will yellow over time. If it has a shine to it, you might want to rough it up a bit with sandpaper for a better surface for paint application.

Works great. I got the matte finish. I love it. My art is not smudging and looks amazing. I would buy this again and again :)

The Prismacolor Spray Final Fixative is a wonderful product. I create very large pastel drawings and it fixes the materials better than any other fixative i have ever used. My only complaint, (and this would go for any sprayfix) is that occasionally the nozzle will drip and spirt out a large drop of fixative on my drawing...this is very difficult to hide.

This is a very good product for preserving pastel artwork. It shoud be used in a very well ventilated area-- best to use outside.

This product worked very well on my son's charcoal drawing. It dried quickly, kept it from smudging, and was easy to use. The smell was quite overpowering, though, in spite of good ventilation. I

The absolute, hands down best fixative I have found for setting the colors of my dyes, great! Always wear a vapor mask!
Rated by: Elizabeth N. in Swisshome, OR
This product works very well as a sealer. I actually got the gloss so my work would look glossy, but it only does if many coats are used on the project.
Rated by: L C. in San Francisco, CA
Works very well. Especially with chalk pastel drawings.
Rated by: Judith M. in Latrobe, PA
It sits well on paper and seems to do an appropriate job.
