Product Questions and Answers

I would like to paint on a relief carving and allow the natural grain to show through subtly. Which fade resistant paint would you recommend?

- Asked by Michael D on 21-May-14

Try mixing 1-Shot Lettering Enamel with 2 parts linseed oil and 1 part paint thinner to create a wood stain. 1-Shot Lettering Enamel is fade resistent itself, but Speed Dry UV Acrylic Clear may be added as a topcoat if additional protection is desired.

- Answered by MisterArt on 23-May-14

I'm adding lettering to a wall art project that has been treated with polyurethane. Will 1-Shot lettering enamel adhere?

- Asked by Cyn B on 18-May-14

The surface of a polyurethane-coated wall is too smooth to properly adhere oil-based paint. Use a fine grain sandpaper to rough up the surface in preparation for the 1-Shot paint to adhere appropriately.

- Answered by MisterArt on 19-May-14

I was wondering if I could use 1-Shot gold lettering to touch up the faded gold lettering on a granite gravestone. Will this work?

- Asked by Doro on 10-Mar-14

1-Shot is a beautiful enamel paint and recommended for outdoor use on any surface. We recommend applying primer first due to the porosity of stone.

- Answered by MisterArt on 11-Mar-14

Will I need to add a final polyurethane coat?

- Asked by Melanie Bacom on 13-Dec-13

We do sell the Speed Dry UV Acrylic Clear, which keeps UV rays from fading the colors.

- Answered by MisterArt on 13-Dec-13

Do I need to prime the wood?

- Asked by Melanie Bacom on 13-Dec-13

It would save paint to use a primer if you're painting on wood. We do not sell a specific primer for this paint, however. If you think you want to use one, just buy a primer for enamel.

- Answered by MisterArt on 13-Dec-13

Will 1-Shot bond or stick to AwlGrip paint on a boat? AwlGrip is a 2-part linear polyurethane enamel.

- Asked by David Pease on 26-Jun-13

The 1-Shot Lettering Paints are not recommended for use on pre-painted surfaces.

- Answered by MisterArt on 28-Jun-13

I would like to know if I can clear-coat over 1-Shot colors with polyurethane clear coats?

- Asked by BONDO BOB on 30-Apr-13

Polyurethane is not recommended for use with the 1-shot enamel paints. We would recommend using the 1-shot Speed Dry UV Acrylic Clear as a top coat.

- Answered by MisterArt on 01-May-13

Can the enamel be airbrushed?

- Asked by dave richards on 01-Apr-13

The 1-shot Lettering Enamel paints can be applied by brush, roller, airbrush, or spray.

- Answered by MisterArt on 02-Apr-13

I just painted on the hood of a VW Beetle and my question is do I need a clear coat on top of it to make it last?

- Asked by Rich R. on 02-Mar-13

We would suggest using Speed Dry UV Acrylic Clear by 1-Shot as a top coat.

- Answered by MisterArt on 07-Mar-13

What is the best solvent to use with 1-Shot paints?

- Asked by jack Zearfoss on 16-Feb-13

To reduce the viscosity of the paint you can use Reducer 6000 by 1-Shot. To accelerate drying time, you can use Hardener by 1-Shot.

- Answered by MisterArt on 21-Feb-13

Will this be able to withstand extreme cold temps and winter weather?

- Asked by Samantha on 20-Nov-12

The 1-shot enamel paints are highly durable and fade resistant.

- Answered by MisterArt on 21-Nov-12

Will these paints work on concrete?

- Asked by Steven on 09-Oct-12

This paint is not recommended for concrete.

- Answered by MisterArt on 12-Oct-12

35 years painting signs, lettering vehicles, boats, windows and more. I have always used 1 shot lettering enamel and would never use anything else. High gloss, durable and it was in my opinion the best. I preferred the older 1 shot when it had lead in it, but it's still the best lettering enamel by far.

I am using this to paint an outdoor sign for a business. It's fantastic. Looks like gold leaf. Goes on well, dries relatively fast. I am totally pleased with this product, and would highly recommend it.
Rated by: Ruthann in Celina, Ohio
I love 1-Shot lettering enamel. The quality and durability of this product is the best. I received this paint in record time and even with shipping costs, the total cost was very affordable.

Any hand worked signage or decorative embellishments-ya gotta have 1-Shot! Great prices from Mister Art.
Rated by: Helen W. in Winnemucca, NV
I have been using 1-Shot Lettering Enamel for over 30 years. It's a great product and lives up to the manufacturer's claims. The only thing better was 1-Shot when it had lead in it, before the government interfered with the formula.

I can always count on 1-Shot Lettering Enamel. I've painted signs and lettered vehicles for many years and wouldn't even consider using anything else but 1-Shot.

I was faced with the need to repaint our sign and 1 Shot was suggested by a professional sign painter. He was right on. 1 Shot has great flow and excellent coverage.

I've used this product for about 35 years now for Sign Writing, Truck Lettering and Pinstriping. It's even excellent for arts & crafts.I've tried several others but nothing comes close for gloss, durability covering , etc. This product is unparalleled. Mr.Art's service is first class & ships One Shot Quick!!

There is no better lettering enamel than 1-Shot! I've used it for over 30 years, and it has NEVER let me down. I have used it on vehicles, store windows, and wooden and metal signs. It is also flexible enough to use on banners, with great results.

OneShot, the only Lettering Enamel you will want to use. I have used OneShot for many years and have had great luck. MisterArt has all your Painting needs
Rated by: Matthew S. in Detroit, MI
this is the classic pinstriping enamel. it has a creamy enough consistency to be forgiving for first time users but is still easily distributed on the palette surface. and of course, the most brilliant hues paint is available in!
Rated by: Cordell C. in Fontana, CA
One Shot is the easiest to use. It covers well and is great for pulling those long lines!
Rated by: Catherine S. in Staten Island, NY
I Love This Paint!!!! I am turning my 1992, dull, Buick Skylark into an "art car" and this paint is really bringing it to life. The colors are vivid and bright and the coverage is superior. If you are thinking about doing an art car, 1-shot paint is the only way to go!! You'll Love it.
Rated by: Jay D. in New Braunfels, TX
One Shot Enamels are by far the superior choice for automotive pinstriping. The flow and consistency of these enamels is unparalleled. I am sure that 40 years from now I will be using the same One Shot enamels to teach my grandchildren how to stripe.
Rated by: Barbara K. in China Grove, NC
I haven't seen this since I apprenticed at a sign shop. I would NEVER use anything else for colorfastness, durability, easy flow, and mixable. We used these on "Funny Cars" to display in shows, graphics on glass, wood and plastics. Supurb product!
Rated by: Karie S. in Seattle, WA
I haven't found anything better for hand-painting leather jackets - One-shot goes on smoothly, dries completely (have used other products that refuse to dry on leather), and holds up well in extreme weather
Rated by: Bruce A. in Edgartown, MA is a great one stop place for sign painting materials that many complain are hard to find. OneShot in particular.....good product, good inventory, good service.
Rated by: Tori S. in Seattle, WA
For sign painting or lettering cars there isn't another enamel paint I would choose. It is buttery smooth and dries to a clean flat finish!
