Arches watercolor papers are manufactured in France using a cylinder mould machine in the same paper mill since 1942. With a focus on exceptional quality and tradition, each sheet is comprised of 100% rag and hand-inspected for consistency in surface, texture, and performance. Special felts give a handsome grain finish to the paper. This durable paper is sized twice, once in the beater and again after sheet formation. These 140 lb. pages are ideal for watercolor, gouache, ink, acrylics, drawing, and printmaking. Sheets are strong enough to handle multiple washes of color, masking fluid, scrubbing, and artist's tape without damage to the surface. Arches Watercolor Pads are tape-bound from the top and contain 12 natural white sheets.

Product Questions and Answers

What is the difference between cold-pressed and hot-pressed watercolor paper?

- Asked by Diane on 02-Jul-13

Hot-pressed means the paper has been pressed with hot rollers during its manufacture. Hot-pressed paper has a smooth surface with little to no tooth. It's well suited for precise detail and illustration. And because it is fine-grained, it's also good for even applications of color. Cold-pressed paper is made with cold rollers. It has a slightly textured surface that's perfect for mediums such as watercolor and charcoal that require some tooth.

I have used a couple of different papers, but Arches is superior to everything else!
Rated by: Mary G. in Winston Salem, NC
Arches Paper is excellent for watercolor, gouche, acrylics, and silkscreen printmaking, The texture is just enough to hold paint without being intrusive. It is a good all-around paper. The paper is tough enough to soak un-sucessful watercolor pieces in hot water for removal of excess paints for a fresh start. This feature alone makes Arches Paper a great investment. Glue stick well to the paper thus making it useful for collage work. I have prints that I made on Arches Paper in the 70's. The paper has not yellowed nor deteriorated in any way. I am most pleased with this finely crafted product and recommend it for beginners and advanced professional artists.

The best. This was my first time working on Arches. I like the way the watercolor takes to the paper and the ease of lifting it off without harming the paper.
