A versatile fine art surface that offers the user a wide range of artistic expression. This product is the result of 12 years of experimentation and actual use by professional artist Charles Ewing. Claybord's mineral-coated, pH neutral surface will accept any media from pencil to oils with the scratchboard advantage of being able to remove pigment exposing the white surface as part of the creative process. Unlike scratchboard or paper-based products, this unique drawing surface can be easily manipulated, erased and reused multiple times. White.

For years I made my own gesso panels for egg tempera till I found Claybord It works beautifully for tempera , better than the panels I made . Every board is uniform , strong and absorbent . I can sand , erase , draw and do what ever I want on them. Give them a try.

Great Product! I use this as a substrate in all my encaustic workshops.

My favorite surface ever for graphite drawings (easily erased, yet at the same time holds the graphite better than paper)... great with paints as well, however since it is clay surface it absorbs oils quickly -- you might try gessobord (also by Ampersand) if you prefer a longer working period. ALSO the BEST price around for both products is HERE. Think about it, if you buy high-quality paper plus mounting board, you've already overspent. In stores (if you can even find it) it sells for almost double cost! My advice: stock up in one shipment and save $!

I have begun painting Byzantine icons and the clayboard is the best product to use. IT works perfectly for this type of painting and can be easily etched. I will definitely continue to use it.

I really liked this board, especially since it offers the ease and security of "starting over" (i.e. erasing without harming your drawing surface.) :)

As a portrait artist fine details in my sitter's image make all the difference. The white clayboard allows for wonderful india ink under drawings, which followed by layers of oil glazes create luminous skin tones. The fact that at any stage one can use an abresive tool to correct mistakes allows for greater freedom and a willingness to take more chances with one's work.

Simply amazing to work on! Accepts graphite and charcoal with ease. You can erase almost completely without the tearing that paper has. I think this is the nicest boards I have ever used.
