Product Questions and Answers

How should I use Liquid Leaf on heavy watercolor paper?

- Asked by William Blome on 26-Apr-14

The Liquid Leaf is similar to traditional leafing with a brush. Since these paints are oil-based, they may not adhere well to watercolor paper. We recommend using 300 Series Canvas Pads by Strathmore or Canvas Pads by Fredrix instead.

Can I mix silver with the classic gold to get a champagne or white soft gold effect?

- Asked by Michele D on 07-Apr-14

They are the same base, so they should mix well.

- Answered by MisterArt on 10-Apr-14

Does this need to be sealed to preserve color?

- Asked by Julia on 06-Mar-14

This one-step leafing paint does not require a sealer.

- Answered by MisterArt on 10-Mar-14

What type of brush is best to use with this product?

- Asked by Lloyd on 25-Feb-14

Softer bristles will reduce visible brushstrokes and achieve a smoother appearance. Liquid Leaf is difficult to remove from paintbrushes, so be sure to clean them immediately following use. We recommend dedicating a brush solely for use when applying Liquid Leaf or choosing an inexpensive disposable brush.

Will this work on polymer clay?

- Asked by PAtty on 26-Dec-13

Plaid reports this product is not chemically compatible for use on polymer clays. It may be used on natural earthen clay only.

- Answered by MisterArt on 27-Dec-13

Would this be suitable to apply to clean rocks and shells?

- Asked by Clare on 16-Nov-13

It will adhere to pretty much any surface, and is really a beautiful effect when applied.

- Answered by MisterArt on 18-Nov-13

Do I need a sealer if I'm going to leave this outside?

- Asked by Janelle on 01-Nov-13

There is no sealer and it should not need one for outdoor use.

- Answered by MisterArt on 01-Nov-13

- Answered by MisterArt on 25-Jun-13

Do you have suggestions for cleaning glass before applying Liquid Leaf?

- Asked by Lisa on 25-Mar-13

The Plaid Liquid leaf is a one-step application. No surface preparation is required. Just make sure the glass is clean, dry, and free from dust particles.

- Answered by MisterArt on 26-Mar-13

How can I clean this off my brush

- Asked by Nancy on 19-Nov-12

Currently, we do not stock a remover for Plaid Liquid Leaf. Use soap and water immediately after use, but if it has dried then you might need a stronger solvent. The base of this paint is xylol (toxic), and that normally requires xylone / xylene to clean.

Love the copper and will be buying the others!I have been wanting copper post cap solar lights and they are just too pricey, I found a 2 pack of inexpensive solar lights, they were brown and we all know what happens to that plastic after baking in the Sun, then it occurred to me that I had the copper and I figured I'd try it on the lights, it covered beautifully in 2 coats. I wasn't sure if I had to seal them until now, but I used Krylon Maxx Clear Satin Spray Paint on them, and to my surprise, the spray instantly turned the copper a beautiful pinkish patina that happens naturally on copper. I will be doing this on my new deck lights before they are mounted, it is really beautiful!

Excellent service and product from MisterArt. Initially I found it too thick for what I was using it for but thinned it down as per the instructions and it worked perfectly.

I have to say it. Sorry. This is the gold standard. Bad pun aside, this product is the lifeblood of my craft projects. Thanks, plaid, for such a great product.

I went through many many different products trying to get the right look, and this did it perfectly! It goes on very smooth and thin, it didn't ruin any minute details! Definitely recommended!

I used this copper leafing paint with a baggie on painted glass. Then, sprayed mirroring behind it. I was so thrilled with the results! It looks like I spend hours when it was only 1 hr on the whole project! It gets compliments whenever someone comes over.

I tried several types of gold paint and gold leaf and I find this to be the easiest and best. It practically flows over the surface and looks almost like gold leaf. I would highly recommend it for all your gold leafing. You will be surprised at how this flows, like no other paint I have ever used. Needs to be tried to be believed.

I found this gold leaf paint of good quality, the only problem is not water soluble and i cant seem to find the solution that is listed on the bottle.

Everyone PLEASE be sure to read the warnings on the back of this leafing paint. Proven to cause cancer and is highly toxic. Read the back very carefully!!!!

This is an excellent procduct which I have used several times over the past few years. I have previously puchased it in a hobby store in the Atlanta area when I lived there. Now I could not find it locally here in Las Cruces so I went to the Internet to find it and did so. I do wish they would make a dark Bronze color. This color is so popular today and I have not been able to find it in a similar application anywhere. One I did find elsewhere when it arrived was a copper color. So I think a nice dark Bronze color include in the range of colors would be highly beneficial.

I've used Plaid Liquid Leaf for over 6 years for painting the wood on the mosaic art that I create. Patrons of the art shows that I do always think that the painted wood is metal because of the high quality and luster of the paint. I have tried other brands and none come close to consistent quality and one coat cover that Plaid does. I highly recommend this product to others

A great metallic paint. The color is solid as a rock - no translucency, the edges are smooth as silk, has a wonderful feel going on with great slip. Downsides are minimal, and expected - oil based, so mineral spirits clean up is necessary and the pigment settles, so periodic stirring in required.
