Product Questions and Answers

Is this paint washable if on clothing?

- Asked by Sandy Ryan on 22-Jan-14

No, this is not a washable tempera. Chroma Inc.'s Aurora and Crayola's Artista II Liquid Tempera are both washable tempera options.

- Answered by MisterArt on 23-Jan-14

Can I paint over Tempera with acrylic or watercolor?

- Asked by LGatto on 19-May-13

Tempura paint can be mixed with watercolor paints and technically also with acrylic paints, but not with oil paints. However, it is not really advised to mix with acrylics due to many differences in binders, flexibility, color brilliance, and permanency.

I love these ChromaTemp paints. I use them on black panels because they are very opaque. For this purpose they are much better than acrylics which look great until the milky white binder dries and turns clear. Then you lose your painting.. The color range is very good and I find that they mix well enough for my purposes. I topcoat with UV Resistant gloss acrylic to help preserve the colors as temperas are usually not lightfast. So far so good! No fades.

I think the Chroma brand is my favorite paint of temperas. I use it to teach seniors in assisted living, and have used this paint for more than five years. The results are very satisfactory to the painters. People are surprised at their results. Thank you.

I am happy with the products received. I also appreciate the e-mail stating you were out of a product. It would be very useful to receive another e-mail sent out when you do have the product in stock. When I received the order the gallons of paint were dented. I'm not sure if it was the shipping company or the containers they were shipped in that failed, however when shipping and handling is paid it is expected that the products be in perfect condition when received. Overall I am happy with my expierence with

I really like the way this tempera covered the area I was painting. It holds its color very well too.

This is the best tempera paint I have ever used and I use a lot. Colors are great (I usually mix them), they don't rot and they are thick enought that paint pots don't spill when knocked over. They can be thinned to work like watercolors as well.

My adult students like these paints quite a bit. They said the texture is very workable and the colors mix well to make other colors on the color wheel.

Very good tempera. It can be mixed with anything and works fine.

Good product. It blends OK with other colors. Most unfurtunate it comes in a very bad designed plastic jar. Be prepare to paint your fingers every time you use it.

This tempera paint is an excellent student-quality product, although it does not work well for color-mixing, it is economical and gives good coverage.
Rated by: Kate K. in Geneva, IL
The fluorescent paint is excellent. It is not completely opaque, so it was perfect for painting posters over drawn black outlines without obscuring the lines. It glows brightly under black light and mixes very well to create new colors. We made all the Scooby Doo colors: brown(for Scooby), turquoise(his collar), flesh tones(with added white), purple(for Daphne), ugly greens and browns(for monsters). Even mixing with standard non-fluorescent tempera only diminished the black light glow slightly.
